Let me introduce you to Mao Xie, younger brother of famous Tie Guan Yin. These two are so similar, that when foreigner is buying Tie Guan Yin in China, he oftem walks away with Mao Xie. And usually won't notice, ever. Both teas share distinct flowery taste, with a hint of lilac. There are however subtle differences: Tie Guan Yoin is usually very bright, sometimes too bright, while Mao Xie is much softer, more round with slight milky notes. And no, it has nothing to do with milk oolong, don't even ask.

What surprised me a lot about Mao Xie is its price. I honestly can con believe it is this cheap with this level of quality. Unfortunately, Tie Guan Yin is so popular, that manufacturers cranked up it's production without consideration for maintaining quality, which makes finding good Tie Guan Yin super hard today. I believe, that Mao Xie will now take on the role of what Tie Guan Yin once was: bright flowery oolong from South Fujian.

If you were in love with Tie Guan Yin 5-10 years ago and watched how quality declined over the years - take a look at Mao Xie. It is likely, that the characteristics you are looking for are right in front of you.
